House with a view & a few unwanted guests
When we bought our home we were so excited to have a large field behind us. All the beautiful wild flowers and greenery to look at instead of the back of someone else's house. It was perfect, that is until the inhabitants started to come visit our home.
In the fall our neighbor came over to ask if we had a mouse or rat problem. No, I said, we do have about 15 little holes dug under our back fence but we haven't seen anything. Our neighbor had about 35 holes under his fence and the people next to him found 5 mice in their window well, so he called an exterminator. When they came, they informed him it was probably rats or voles (rat like things with small tails). So he bated for them and we haven't thought of it since. We went out to do yard work a few days later when we saw a brown thing on our lawn. When we got closer to it we realized it was a half eaten and barely recognizable vole. Yuck! At least now we know what they look like, minus the head, legs and with the insides exposed.
Well, winter came and we thought no more of our pest problem. Surely the winter had either killed the voles or they were hibernating, right? When the snow had finally melted, we noticed some strange markings in our grass. Upon further inspection they turned out to be burrowed paths from these voles. They had been digging trenches in our lawn underneath the snow! AAHHH! They aren't even underground, they're right through the grass. The field that we once loved we now wish were full of homes, a
church building, or even better, a temple.
If you would like this type of custom landscaping, please give us a call. We'll be glad to deliver some voles to your home for free. We guarantee no two lawns will look the same. You better take advantage of this amazing deal before the field is developed and they're gone.

What a bummer! Our dog caught several mice/rats last year. I've never heard of noles, he may have even caught one of those! Thanks for stopping by last night, since you are Jen's butterfly! Ha ha
All I have to say is YUCK!
To my butterfly, ;)
We have the SAME problem! Like you guys, we were so excited about the amazing view and awesome field in back of our house. Now we have the same unique landscape as you. Yuck. It completely grosses me out. I hope that whatever creature is causing those, finds somewhere else to burrow holes. GROSS!
Oh I can't even imagine! YUCK! I hope they find a new home soon.
Oh, I gasped outloud when I read this! I have a very irrational fear when it comes to mice/rats etc. Before this house we lived in an old farmhouse in the middle of three fields--no houses to be seen. Let's just give you a visual:"Me standing on a chair in living room, interrupted in the middle of the night while nursing Porter, Casey running around the room with a baseball bat." Seriously, terrifying.
Oh, Kim that is aweful!! I hope that you get rid of them soon! You want to borrow our dog? I wonder if that would have any affect on the them? I hope they find a new home soon, and that they build something there soon too!
This picture really freaks me out! I can't even look at it, it just gives me the heeby jeebies!!
Yuck! Now I'm freaking out! I love that field behind our house too, but maybe I should go out and see if we have any! Yuck!
Jeff and I went for a walk around our house last night and found the exact same beautiful pattern in our side yard. I guess we are just trying to copy you guys!:)
So thats what you were talking about! Gross! I'm sorry, that's a bummer. Hey, atleast you got some free landscaping! Wahoo!
Oh, my gosh that is awful! We have one little line in our yard. I honestly think they stay away because of our neurotically loud little dog. Time for a puppy! ;)
