A rollercoaster of a week

On Tuesday we had a very sad day. The kids and I took our two cats in for their routine vaccinations. Everything at the vet went well until on the ride home Cinnamon's behavior began to be anything but routine. She began throwing up which didn't worry me too much at the beginning since a side effect of the shot is "mild vomiting". When we returned home the kids and I went outside for twenty minutes to play in the great weather. When we came back inside Cinnamon had now thrown up all over the place and was panting like a dog. She didn't want anyone to touch her and even hissed at us which she has never done. I called the vet clinic where the vet had left for the day and we were told to go to an after hours clinic. So, we piled into the car and off we went. The vet at the Animal ER examined her and said it looked like she was having a anaphylactic shock reaction to the vaccine. He said they would put her into a oxygen bed and then give her anti-inflammatory shots and we could pick her up as soon as she was better. By the time we had almost arrived home the vet called us saying we had a serious problem. He explained that after they had gotten her out of the oxygen tank and were trying to put in her I.V. that she was out of control and then collapsed on the table. They administrated CPR and got her heart beating again but when they put her in the oxygen tank again her heart stopped for good. The kids heard the whole conversation on the phone and by the time we pulled into our driveway we were all in tears. We couldn't believe that within a 3 hour time period our cat had gone from completely healthy to not returning home. We love you Cinnamon and will miss you.(Cinnamon is the tan cat in front)
We weren't the only ones sad that Cinnamon wasn't coming home. Our other cat Patches walked around the house all night and day meowing and looking for Cinnamon. When he realized he couldn't find her, he sat under our bed for three days and wouldn't come out except at night and would barely eat anything. We had adopted him two weeks after Cinnamon so he didn't know anything without her. He had lost his best friend. We knew we needed to do something quickly to help him not be so lonely. Today we went to the animal shelter and looked at new kittens. We were only planning on getting one but found two sisters that we thought would be great friends for Patches and brought them home to our family. Here are Milkshake and Lizzy. We named one Milkshake because it has a little brown mustache like a child would get from drinking a chocolate milk shake. Before we went to the shelter we took the kids out to lunch and asked if the kids liked the name Lizzy. Alyssa was so excited about the name because she has a friend named Lizzy and thought it would be the perfect name if our baby is a girl. Jimmie and I laughed because little did she know we were actually talking about a name for the new kitten we were going to surprise the kids with. We hope Patches will love his new friends and will be able to get back to his cuddly self again soon.

Oh how sad. I would be paranoid to get my pets vaccinated again! Such a sad way for her to go - so sorry.

That's a sad story. :( How sad that everything went downhill so quickly. I'm glad you were able to get some new kitties. I actually know someone who was wanting to give away the cutest little free kittens to a good home last week. I should have called you. Anyway, Lizzy and Milkshake are adorable. Welcome to the family! I hope everyone is feeling better soon.

That's too bad about the cat. Talk about tossing up a "fur ball." I just decided that I could never own pets : (

Hi! Congratulations on the pregnancy. Clearly I am behind in my blog reading. Sorry about the cat. Happy you still have a job. Even happier for a new baby. Sounds like you are doing well.

That is such a heartbreaking story about Cinnamon. Poor kitty, and your poor family. It's so hard to lose a pet. They become a member of your family. I was thrilled to see that you were able to adopt two new kitties from the shelter. You guys are so sweet.
