Jayden is 8!

Jayden is 8 years old! We can't believe how fast this time has come. For his birthday he invited four of his friends over and we went bowling. The kids had a great time and I was impressed with how well the kids bowled; of course I think the bumpers helped :) Then it was back to our house for cake, ice cream and opening presents.
With turning 8 comes a few perks. The first one is he was able to start cub scouts. This we have noticed is an adventure for the whole family, none more excited about it than his dad. His dad couldn't wait to flip through the book and see what fun things they get to do because they "have to" for scouts. Jayden and Jimmie worked hard all month for him to earn his Bobcat and a swimming belt loop. Here is a picture of the ceremony where he got his Bobcat.

But the biggest perk was he was able to get baptized. We had prepared by having family home evenings about baptism and a couple practices so Jayden would be a pro by the time the big day came. The day had arrived and it was sunny and warm. We went to the church where we took pictures, had the program and went to the font. When Jimmie was about to dunk Jayden under the water Jayden said, "Wait dad, I'm nervous. I can't do this." After a lot of reassurance from his father that everything would be fine and it would go exactly like they had practiced except now there would be water, he went under the water. Unfortunately the water was cold, not filled very full and when Jayden kicked his legs we thought the process was going to have to be repeated. I don't think Jayden would have been as nervous if Jimmie hadn't joked around that morning that he would have to hold Jayden under the water for a while until Jimmie decided he was completely cleansed. Overall it was a wonderful day and Jayden had a great experience. We had some family drive up from California to celebrate with us so that made is extra special. We love you Jayden and are very proud of you!
