Celebrating our Anniversary

To celebrate our anniversary Jimmie and I went on a 7 day retreat to Florida. We stayed in the Disney's Coronado Hotel which had a great pool and nice lake making a great view from our room.
On day 1 we went to Epcot which ended up being our least favorite park. They just didn't have very many rides. At the end of one ride though they had some really great futuristic and every day cars. I have always joked with Jimmie that some day I will own a Hummer and they had a Hummer among all the other cars that you could climb in, test drive and they even had a salesman there in case you wanted to purchase it. I don't know about you, but I've never experienced that in a theme park before.
Day 2 we headed to the Magic Kingdom. It was almost identical to Disneyland and was tons of fun. We hit all the big rides and even some of the kiddie ones, I think because it was kind of sad being in a kid park without our kids. I will tell you one thing though, you feel really weird being the only adults standing in line for a kid ride without any kids with you. Oh well, we're trying to still be young at heart I guess.

Notice the name on the roller coast, Death Mountain. This is what we've called it since it became that for one unlucky person at Disneyland. It's been a long 10 years.
After the park we headed back to the hotel. Around 11 pm as we were watching the Olympics we heard rain pouring down outside. It was not just a little rain, it was torrential rain, the most rain we've ever seen. It had been such a hot day without a cloud in the sky that we couldn't believe it was raining, especially that hard. Jimmie walked outside in his shorts to see. I decided that even though I was only in my garments I would quickly go the 3 feet to the railing to see the rain and then slip back into our room. Well Jimmie had put his sandal in the doorway to prop the door from closing and on my way out I bumped it without realizing it. Jimmie jumped towards the door but not before we heard the handle click closed. Jimmie decided that since he was more dressed than I was that he would run to the lobby and get a key to open our door. I huddled close to the door praying that no one would come before he came back. It took Jimmie about ten minutes to return with a key in which time only one family passed by below our building luckily running because of how hard it was raining. As soon as we closed the door after we had gotten back into our room we heard the door open next door to us. The man had gone out on the balcony to smoke. I was so glad that he didn't come out a minute earlier with me standing there and me have to explain what I was wearing. Moral of the story, make sure you're complete dressed any time you walk outside even if you think it will only be for two seconds.

Day 3 we went to the Animal Kingdom and it rained. Not just a little bit, it down poured. Everyone jumped off the bus and ran to the nearest gift shop to purchase ponchos. I have never seen to many people cram into a gift shop before, it was definitely a sight to see. Jimmie and I had been told by many people that in Florida it only rains for about 30 minutes so to just keep doing what you have planned and it would be over soon. Because of this we decided not to get ponchos because we didn't want to carry them around all day after it stopped raining. Well, finally by mid afternoon the rain stopped, just our luck, I'm sure if we would have bought ponchos the rain would have stopped sooner. Oh well, we had a great time sloshing around in our sandals with soaked clothes all day.

Here are just a few of the people who didn't mind toughing it out in the rain with us that day.

Day 4 we headed to Hollywood Studios where we again had great fun. There was a lot to see and a lot of fun rides. It was a great day except for the heat and humidity. I had bought a ice cream bar and by the time I walked to a bench and sat down to eat it, it was already melted enough to fall off the stick.

Day 5 we decided that we needed a break from the amusement parks and headed to Downtown Disney. We went to see The Dark Knight which was really good and not very busy. After the flick we went and hit the shops to see what treasures we could find. We searched high and low, in other words went into every store, (Jimmie, thanks for tolerating my need to see everything that is available before I buy the perfect gift) until I found the perfect treasures to reward our kids with for being good for Grandma. Then we went to the hotel and went swimming. Our hotel pool had a waterslide which was definitely the most enjoyable part of the pool.

During our adventure swimming, someone had decided to steal our room card. So Jimmie stood guard by our room while I went to get a new one. The concierge guy did one thing that I still don't quite understand. When I told him what happened he wanted to make sure I was who I said I was. He proceeded to ask me if I had a photo I.D. on me. Um, I'm standing in the middle of the lobby soaking wet with only a swim suit and towel on. I don't know about you, but I don't go swimming with my photo I.D. on my body at all times.

Day 6 we headed back to Magic Kingdom for more fun reliving our need to feel young again.

Day 7 we woke up bright and early at 4:00 am Florida time, that's 2:00 am Utah time to catch the shuttle to the airport. It wouldn't have been so bad except for the fact we didn't go to sleep until between midnight and 1 am Florida time. We flew home to have our cute kiddos greet us at the airport. We had a great time spending time together without the kids on our relaxing vacation, but were so excited to see our kids again.

Your trip sounds like it was an absolute blast! I must say that your pictures were so awesome. I love that you two were so silly in so many of them. You guys rock! Seriously how cool is that?

Your story about being locked outside of your hotel room in your garments is seriously one of the funniest stories that I have ever heard. As I was reading it I felt myself turning red and being nervous for someone to see you. I'm glad that things didn't get too embarrassing for you!
