Skate Night
Our school had a family skate night at Classic Skating. Thanks to the plethora of reminder notes sent home, our kids were dying to go so we threw the scooters in the back of the car and were on our way. As soon as we got there the kids took off around the rink.

Paxton had just gotten his first scooter for Christmas and since it has snowed so much he hasn't had much practice on it. He started off on his own but was having quite a bit of difficulty so Jimmie thought it would be a great idea if he and I got skates so we could go out on the rink to help. Knowing we're not as young as we use to be and not wanting to visit the ER, I wasn't so sure about the idea but agreed to it anyway. So here I was pretty much with locked knees and every muscle in my body tense as I skate around in front of half the people in our neighborhood. (Thank you everyone for showing up to witness this unforgettable event.)
Jimmie and I took turns skating behind Paxton around the rink so he wouldn't fall. While I was skating I learned several important lessons:
1. You are risking your life when you skate with elementary age kids.
2. Kids cannot under any circumstances ride their scooter or skate in a straight line.
3. A child will stare right at you the whole time until they run into you.
4. The law that you have to be 16 to drive is a great law. Seeing how crazy kids steer their scooters and love to go the opposite direction of everyone else, we might want to consider raising that law to 18.
5. No matter how young at heart you think you are, there are just some things you shouldn't do if you're over age 30; skating being one of them.
I am pleased to say that during the skating we only had a few falls and I only had one blister. After skating the kids played in the Pirates Cove Playland. Everything was going well until Alyssa went down the slide backwards without noticing a boy at the bottom. She knocked him over on top of her and hit her head. She had a small goose egg but at least it was in her hair so no one would see it. But all in all, we had an enjoyable time.

Aww, don't you remember how significant skating rinks are to you guys? Without a skating rink you and Jimmie may have never gotten together! ;)

Can I start by saying how stinking awesome you and Jimmie are for getting out there with your kids. You are very, VERY brave! I loved what you had to say about the kids having to be 16 to drive. You were on some dangerous territory!
