August fun
County Fair
This summer our neighbor did a 4-H bread making and cake decorating class and invited Alyssa to participate. She loved being able to go each week to hang out with her friends and learn to cook better. It was quite beneficial for everyone because her family loved having homemade rolls and a cake every Monday for dinner! At the end of the summer you get to turn in your projects to be judged at the county fair so off she sent a decorated cake and zucchini bread. The anticipation of knowing how her projects had been judged was killing her so we went on the first day to end the suspense. We first found her projects and discovered she had received a blue ribbon for her cake and a red ribbon for her bread.
Then we could enjoy the rest of the fair. There were free pony rides for the kids, an alligator show, a magician, a yo-yo man, booths to educate you, carnival rides, and bouncers. The kids especially loved the alligator show.

Bear Lake
Our good friends Ralph & Brooke invited us to go camping with them at Bear Lake for one last adventure before school started. We thought it was a great idea so we packed up and off we went. Unfortunately, we weren't the only ones with the brilliant idea and had a difficult time finding a camp site. We finally found one that we would all fit together in and set up camp. Then we made dinner, threw rocks into the water which the kids could have done all night long. It's not very often they get to throw rocks without getting told not to, so they loved it. Then we roasted marshmellows over the fire and played games until 1 am.
The kids playing in the tentThe next morning we hurried over to the lake to play on the wave runners we had rented. Jimmie took the kids out two at a time to have a turn then asked if I wanted to try. I'm pretty sure my doctor wouldn't have approved so I am not including any pictures that could prove I was actually out on a seadoo. The kids loved the excitement of how fast the wave runners go and got annoyed when we'd slow down. We spent a couple hours out on the lake and the kids were sad when we had to return the fun water toys.

But then it was a picnic and playing in the sand. We had a great time at the lake and spending time with our friends. The kids kept saying it was the best camping trip ever and asked if we could go there every time from now on.
Who doesn't love having the waves wash sand over your body until it disappears?
