Dancing Queen

I took ballet for years when I was growing up and loved it and always thought my daughter would want to do the same. I was worried that Alyssa would think ballet was boring and would enjoy something a little more active and upbeat, so we signed her up for Jazz. Dance began and she loved learning new things, jumping around the room and making new friends. Unfortunately the teacher she had became overwhelmed with how much she was teaching and started losing patience with the kids. Alyssa soon began saying she didn't want to do dance any more. Luckily half way through the year her class got a new teacher who was a lot nicer and the year got much better. At the end of the year they got their costumes and couldn't wait to show them off. They did so good at the recital and looked cute in their little leopard trim outfits. After the recital Alyssa informed me that she doesn't really like dance and doesn't want to take it any more. She looked so cute that I'm sad she doesn't want to continue it. I have heard that a child needs to be involved in a sport or music for three years to really be able to decide if they like it or not. The decision comes, should we have her be in dance for another couple years or let her stop here? What should we do?

Here are the only pictures we may ever have of her in dance:

I'm not sure. I am making Christian stick with piano for a few years anyway, maybe when he is 18 I will let him quit.

I don't know! That's a hard one. Maybe try a sport like soccer next year? Jake's rule for our kids is simple: It doesn't matter what they choose to do, but they will do something extracurricular, and do it well. I don't think you can push her into something she doesn't want to do and have it work out, but I don't know Alyssa like you do! Good luck.

good grief-- when did she grow up? Good luck with deciding what to do. My mom made us take piano for two years and then we could decide for ourselves if we wanted to quit or not.

So beautiful. She looks like a real natural. Perhaps one day she'll change her mind.
