Farewell Speech!

We have had a great accomplishment this past week, Gavin tested out of Speech services. In recognition of this joyous time (now I have more free time and don't have to find a babysitter every week for Paxton) I thought I would share a story with you. You know how you've seen a child do something and thought, "I am so glad I'm not her (the Mom) right now." I was that Mom.

To test out of speech they show the child a bunch of pictures and the child has to pronunciate correctly what the picture is. Gavin has been so proud of himself recently since he can seem to rhyme every word he hears. The Speech teacher began pointing to pictures and Gavin would say the word and then rhyme it with another word, which only sometimes was an actual word. So the teacher would point to a picture of a tree and he would say, "tree, free". Next came a monkey..."monkey, funky." Then a "car, far"....."pancake, fancake"......."banana, fanana." The teacher continued to go through almost a whole page of this where Gavin decided to choose the letter F in front of every rhyming word. I was worried when I saw a picture of a duck a few pictures away from where she was pointing. I thought there was no way she would point to it when he had been following the same pattern down the whole page. Here she comes to it, I'm saying to myself "skip over it, skip over it, please." She points directly to it and he says, "duck, ****". She is drop jawed as I quickly cup my hand over his mouth. I tell him to only say the word and don't rhyme it. As I release my hand he yells really loud, "duck, ****". By now all the other Mom's in the room clasp their hands over their kids ears and stare at me. I try to explain that he doesn't know what it means and has been using the F sound to rhyme all the words. The other Mom's didn't seem to believe me and a couple of them even got up from their tables and left the class. Gavin didn't understand, turned to me and said, "What's wrong Mommy? I rhymed." I said, "Good job Gavin, you did rhyme." So it isn't really swearing if it's a rhyming word, right? Oh well, hopefully the other parents will return to the class now that Gavin is no longer in it!

Little kids are so innocent. That's why stories like that are so hilarious. It's good to hear from you guys. It sounds like you are doing great. We miss seeing all our old friends.
